Think about...

  • Do you have more or less responsibility when you get a job?
  • If you need supports in school, whose job is it to make sure you get those supports?
  • If you need supports at work, whose job is it to make sure you get those supports?
  • Does your boss have to change the job requirements because of your disability?
  • When you leave high school and get a job, is your parent’s role the same or does it change?

Create an infographic showing the differences between your rights and responsibilities in school and the workplace.

  • Set up an in person, phone, or video call with both a manager of a business and someone who works in your school
  • Download the Interview Recording Sheet
  • Ask each person the same questions and record their answers
  • Answer the reflection questions as you look for similarities and differences between schools and workplaces

  • After completing the interviews, did you discover any similarities between high school settings and the workplace?
  • After completing the interviews, did you discover any differences between high school settings and the workplace?
  • What are the differences in how you get accommodations at school versus in the workplace?
  • Whose responsibility is it to make sure you get the support you need in high school, and how does that change when you enter the workplace?
  • Why do you think it is important to know and understand these similarities and differences before you enter the workplace?
