Ignite is designed to teach adolescents and young adults (ages 12—16) with disabilities the skills necessary to become active participants in designing their futures. Through self-exploration, knowledge development and hands-on practice, the Ignite curriculum actively builds the mindset and skills necessary for students to become self-advocates in a variety of settings including their IEP and Transition meetings.

Research Summary:
Though this partial program evaluation proved the Ignite STP to have a significant impact on the first term GPAs of the participants, the students may continue to struggle to meet other progression and university GPA expectations for specific majors. The Ignite participants become more like their non-Ignite peers as they progress at the university. Eventually, non–Ignite participant GPAs surpass the Ignite participants. From the perspective of the program evaluator, the Ignite STP should continue as a means of higher education access for academically at-risk students while considering possible rebranding and recommendations for program improvement.
