  • What resources are in your community that can help you continue your education?
  • What resources or people currently support you?
  • What are the different ways you can create a community resource map?
  • How can a community resource map help you with finding a college or training program?

Instructions

As you begin to plan for your future, organizing your resources and supports will help you reach your goals. A community resource map keeps your resources organized in one place for you to find. In this activity you will practice identifying resources that can be added to a community resource map.

Review the Community Resource Mapping Fact Sheet along with any other resources and complete the activity below.

Instructions

Community resource maps are created for your individual needs. You will need to add resources to your map that are important to you. Identify two of these resources and complete an interview or visit the resource to gather information you can include on your map.

  • Download the Recording Form
  • Identify two resources you are interested in adding to your map
  • Choose to interview someone from the organization or complete a visit
  • During your visit or interview, fill in the information about the resource using the form
  • Answer the reflection questions and decide if this is a resource you would like to add to your community resource map

Reflect

  • Can the resources you interviewed or visited help you after you leave high school?
  • What other resources in your community should you visit or interview the staff to learn more about?
  • Why is it important to consider your interests, skills, and needs when creating your community resource map?
  • How will you use your community resource map?
